Trading news on a prop firm challenge: restrictions, risks and MT5 news filters

High-impact economic news can move prices fast, widen spreads and cause slippage. For an account with a strict drawdown limit, that is dangerous, and some firms add explicit news-trading restrictions on top.

Why news matters for prop accounts

  • Slippage: stops can fill far from your price.
  • Spread widening: entries and exits cost more.
  • Rules: some firms limit opening or closing trades within a window around certain events. Rules differ by firm and by account type, so read yours.

Build a news routine

  1. Check the calendar for the day, filtered to the currencies you trade.
  2. Decide which impact levels you will avoid (for example high only).
  3. Set a window before and after each event, for example 15–30 minutes, matching your firm’s rule or your own caution.
  4. Decide the action: no new trades, or also manage existing ones.

Automating news windows in MT5

Prop Firm Risk Manager PRO EA includes a news filter where you pick currencies, impact levels and the time before and after each event. Confirm the calendar source is reachable and understand what happens if event data cannot refresh. Orders it submits are checked before execution; manual or external-EA trades may be handled after they appear.

The filter supports your own rules. It does not replace reading your firm’s terms.

Educational content, not financial advice or a trading signal. Always confirm rules with your prop firm. No tool guarantees profitability, challenge success or loss prevention.
